As part of its ongoing commitment to sexual and reproductive health, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), with financial support from the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), organized a ceremony to hand over medical equipment to the Logone Oriental provincial health delegation. The ceremony was attended by the Governor of Logone Oriental Province, Mr TOKE DADI, and the Deputy Director of the Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).
Maternal and neonatal mortality continue to undermine the rights of girls and women. This initiative, part of the “Strengthening resilience and transforming the lives of women and young people in humanitarian provinces at high risk of conflict in Chad” project, is in line with efforts by the Government, UNFPA and KOICA to improve maternal and child health and contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
UNFPA and KOICA more committed to saving and improving the living conditions of girls and women
The Assistant Representative of UNFPA Chad, Mr. GASSI Simabry Mathieu, who represented the Resident Representative, affirmed that UNFPA's commitment to sexual and reproductive health and the fight against gender-based violence is more essential than ever. For him, the equipment and medical kits will guarantee quality, holistic services for women and girls, including survivors of sexual and gender-based violence.
Present at the ceremony, Ms Juhee Seo, Deputy Director of KOICA, said:
KOICA, as a partner of UNFPA, is pleased to support this handover of medical equipment to 10 health facilities in the province of Logone Oriental to provide more integrated and holistic care for girls and women, including sexual and reproductive health care.” “The success of all KOICA project activities in the area depends on the collaboration and active involvement of all stakeholders, and this can motivate the mobilization of other resources from the Korean Republic”,
she added.
Governor of Logone Oriental calls for more support from UNFPA and KOICA in his province
The Governor of Logone Oriental Province, TOKE DADI, took the opportunity to express his deep gratitude to UNFPA and KOICA for their generosity and support for the health and well-being of local communities, while pleading for continued support and its expansion throughout his province, as the need is immense. According to him, this medical equipment is not just a tool, it is a symbol of UNFPA and KOICA's commitment to improving community health.
Considering the enormous progress made over the last three years in the Logone Oriental province thanks to the collaboration with UNFPA and the financial support of KOICA, we can say that our communities can easily access integrated sexual reproductive health services even in emergency situations. This medical equipment will enable you to support and provide quality services to our communities to improve their lives, especially for our girls and women, including refugees",
said the governor.
The impact of KOICA support in 3 years
It is important to note that this delivery of medical equipment is only part of the ongoing efforts of UNFPA and KOICA to support local health systems and strengthen their capacity to respond to the health needs of the population. A total of 30 health facilities in Chad, including 10 in the Logone Oriental Province, are supported by this project.
This community resilience and empowerment project has significantly shaped and transformed the foundations of community development at all levels. It has also strengthened the human rights, dignity and well-being of individuals, in particular their sexual and reproductive health and their right to decide freely when to have children, and to live free from violence, including harmful practices.
